Super League Basketball (SLB) is a men's professional basketball league established in Great Britain in 2024. It replaced the former British Basketball League (BBL), which had been the top men's basketball competition in the country since 1987. The BBL faced severe financial difficulties, which led to the termination of its operating license by the British Basketball Federation (BBF).
On the same day, Premier Basketball Limited was formed by a consortium of existing basketball teams previously part of the BBL. Led by Sarah Backovic, director of Sheffield Sharks, the consortium was granted a three-year license by the BBF to operate the new top-level men's basketball league. The name "Super League Basketball" was announced on 2 August 2024.
The SLB has specific rules regarding player qualifications and salaries. Each team is allowed a maximum of six non-British qualified players per game, excluding those with naturalisation and leave to remain. There is a salary cap of £400,000 per season for all SLB teams, excluding the highest-paid British-qualified player. The average player salary is £31,000 per season, and teams are fined for exceeding the salary cap. Additionally, teams cannot field more than nine import players in a season, and signings can be made throughout the pre-season and regular season until the league's transfer deadline on February 28 (or 29 in leap years).

History
The Swedish Basketball League was established in 1992 as Basketligan. Before the 2006-2007 season, the league changed its name twice. Firstly, in October 2006, the Swedish Basketball Federation signed a 15-year agreement with Obol Investment, a Swiss company. As a result, the league was renamed the Obol Basketball League (OBL). The following January, the name was changed again, this time to Ligan, which simply means 'the League' in English.
