The Arlington Baptist University, formerly known as the Fundamental Baptist Bible Institute, was founded by J. Frank Norris in 1939. Norris was born in Dadeville, Alabama, and his family later moved to Arkansas and then to Columbiana, Alabama. Norris became a pastor at Mount Antioch Baptist Church in Mount Calm, Texas, in 1897.
