Basketball was invented in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts, by Canadian-American inventor James Naismith, a 31-year-old graduate student and instructor at Springfield College. Naismith was also inducted into Toronto's Walk of Fame in 2019 and was honoured with a Google Doodle on January 15, 2021.
