The first head coach was Eugene "Torchy" Clark, who led the Knights for 14 seasons and never had a losing season. During his tenure, the Knights were ranked in the top 10 nationally for seven consecutive years. Clark earned Sunshine State Coach of the Year honours four times and won the conference's coach of the decade award. The UCF Arena, now known as the Addition Financial Arena, is a sports and entertainment arena located near Orlando in Orange County, Florida, on the main campus of the University of Central Florida.
