The Basketball Tournament (TBT) 2023 was the tenth edition of the tournament. It featured 64 teams playing 5-on-5, single-elimination basketball games. The tournament began on July 19 and ended on August 3, with the championship game taking place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The tournament started at seven regional sites: Lubbock, Texas; Louisville, Kentucky; Wheeling, West Virginia; Syracuse, New York; Cincinnati, Ohio; Wichita, Kansas; and Dayton, Ohio. The quarterfinal games were played in Wichita, West Virginia, Dayton, and Louisville. The final four and championship games took place at Drexel University's Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
TBT 2023 featured 75 players with NBA experience, 34 college alumni teams, and international professionals playing in top leagues worldwide. The tournament used a modified version of the NCAA men's basketball rules, with the most notable difference being the use of the Elam Ending to avoid excessive fouling near the end of the game. Under the Elam Ending, the clock is turned off with four minutes or less to play in the game, and a target score is set for the teams to reach.
Most games in the tournament were exclusive to the ESPN Plus streaming service, which does not offer a free trial. However, select games were available on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU, which can be streamed live on fuboTV or DirecTV Stream, both of which offer limited free trials.
