The Belmont Bruins have a well-known rivalry with Lipscomb University Bisons, known as the Battle of the Boulevard. This rivalry is due to the close proximity of the two schools in Nashville, Tennessee—they are about three miles apart on the same road. In addition, the Bruins have been building a rivalry with Murray State University since both teams joined the OVC in 2012. From that year until their departure from the OVC in 2022, Belmont and Murray State dominated, together winning every regular season championship.
In the 2008 tournament, the Bruins played an exciting game against the Duke Blue Devils, losing by just one point (70-71) in the first round.
