B-ball is an informal term for basketball. Basketball was invented in 1891 by James Naismith, a Canadian physical education instructor and graduate student at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Naismith invented basketball as a less injury-prone sport than football, and one that could be played indoors during the winter. The game was an instant success and quickly spread beyond the College.
