State Farm Center, University of Illinois
The State Farm Center at the University of Illinois has been a host venue for the Illinois High School Boys' Basketball State Finals since 1963. Known as the "longtime home" of the tournament, the Center has also hosted the IHSA girls' basketball tournament from 1978 to 1991. The Center was designed by University of Illinois alumnus Max Abramovitz and opened in 1963 as the Assembly Hall. It is also the home court of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini men's and women's basketball teams.
The State Farm Center has undergone renovations, with the university opting to refurbish the existing structure in 2010. The arena first opened in 1890 as the Men's Gym Annex and was renamed Kenney Gym in 1905, remaining so until 1925. The Fighting Illini men's and women's basketball teams had to play their first five games of the 2015 season at alternative venues due to the construction work. The State Farm Center hosted its first game after the renovation on December 2, 2015.
The Center has a unique design, with a roof supported by 614 miles of one-quarter-inch steel wire wrapped at the base of the dome under intense pressure. It was the largest dome structure in North America from 1963 to 1965, until the Astrodome in Houston, Texas, was built.
If you're planning to attend the IHSA Boys Basketball State Finals at the State Farm Center, you can purchase tickets in advance. Single-session tickets are usually made available at noon on a specified date, and all-session and partial packages by class size are often available earlier. The sessions are organised by class, with semi-finals and championship games taking place at different times. It is recommended to visit the Arena Policies page on the State Farm Center website to learn about policies such as the Clear Bag Policy and to plan your visit accordingly.
