The Cavaliers or the Cleveland Cavaliers is an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. They compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member club of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers began playing in 1970 as an expansion team, along with the Portland Trail Blazers and the Buffalo Braves. Their home games were initially held at the Cleveland Arena from 1970 to 1974, then at the Richfield Coliseum from 1974 to 1994. Since 1994, the Cavaliers have played their home games at Rocket Arena (formerly known as Gund Arena) in downtown Cleveland, which they share with the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League.
The Cavaliers' original jersey colours were wine and gold, with the first jerseys featuring a feathered "C" in "Cavaliers". In 1974, the jerseys changed to a block lettering and checkerboard pattern, which became synonymous with the "Miracle of Richfield" team of 1976. The shade of gold was also changed from yellow to metallic, and the uniforms were updated to include stripes above "Cavaliers" and below the uniform number.
